We must stop covenant breaking in the ecclesia. This is not the way of unity.
A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken (Eccl 4:12 NLT).
This verse is not limited to marriage. Covenant reflects the relationship with God that was restored through Jesus. We must do better about maintaining covenants among families of Believers as well. Yes it gets ugly, but we must follow the example of Christ who was willing to endure ugliness— even to the death of the cross.
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross
(Phil 2:8 NIV).
Jesus died to uphold covenant yet it is thrown away so easily?
Upholding covenant takes obedience and humility. It takes owning our faults, and bending over backwards for the faults of others. It takes embracing each other’s perfect imperfections. It takes diligently obeying the Holy Spirit to maintain the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3 NIV).
We were given the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5:18). Seek to restore and be restored. Seek healing. Seek forgiveness. Seek to do whatever it takes to maintain healthy Kingdom covenants.
Follow the patterns of the Scriptures and do what Jesus did—CHOOSE
LOVE.
